『私たちは売りたくない』

先日『私たちは売りたくない』という本が出版された。某製薬メーカーの若手社員が、同僚が何年か前に始まった新しいタイプの注射後に亡くなったことをきっかけに現在の医療について問題提起をしたものだ。

その本は発売と同時に爆発的に売れ、すぐに品切れの状態となった。いまだにほとんどの人の手に渡ってはいない。しかしそれだけこのことが多くの国民の関心事になっていることを示している。

ラッキーなことに私の手元にはそれが届けられ、今読んでいるところだ。とても丁寧に分かりやすく書かれている本であり、今後は一人一人が自ら情報を収集して慎重に判断しなければならないと感じさせられる。

地元ではチラシが配られ、民間レベルで情報提供がなされている。先日ある病院を訪れ、院長先生にチラシを見せて、新しいタイプの注射について質問した。「たぶん誰かが質問に来ると思って準備していました」と言って医療の内容についてのスライドを見せていただいた。状況は理解できたが、これから日本がどうなるかについての不安は払拭されなかった。先生も現在の医療行政に対して「改善してほしいことはたくさんある」と述べておられた。

日本人の中に不安が広がっているのを感じるが、同時に明るい希望も見える。先日のSound of Freedomもそうだが、白鳥哲監督のLast Hopeを見た時も最後は希望の光を感じた。

この『私たちは売りたくない』の出版にも何か大きな意味があると感じる。ぜひ多くの人に読んでもらいたい本である。

“We Don’t Want to Sell”

Recently, a book titled We Don’t Want to Sell was published. It was written by young employees of a certain pharmaceutical company who began to question the current direction of healthcare after a colleague passed away after a new type of injection which began some years ago.

The book became an instant bestseller, selling out almost immediately upon release. Yet, most people have not been able to get their hands on it, which shows just how much this topic has captured the nation’s attention.

Fortunately, I managed to obtain a copy, and I am currently reading it. It is written in a very clear and accessible manner, making me realize how important it is for each of us to gather information and make careful decisions about healthcare in the future.

In my local area, flyers are being distributed, and there are grassroots efforts to expand information. The other day, I visited a hospital and showed the flyer to the doctor, asking about the new type of injection. The doctor said, “I figured someone would come to ask about this, so I’ve prepared some slides on the topic.” He explained the situation thoroughly, but my unease about the future of Japan did not dissipate. He also commented, “There are many things I’d like to see improved in the current medical administration.”

While I sense growing anxiety among the Japanese people, I also see a glimmer of hope. The recent movie Sound of Freedom brought similar feelings, and I also felt a light of hope at the end of Tetsu Shiratori’s Last Hope.

I believe there is a profound significance in the publication of We Don’t Want to Sell. It’s a book that I hope many people will read.
